The Courthouse Hotel is the ultimate hip yet historic hotel in the heart of London. Located amidst the capital’s bustling shopping district - a stone’s throw away from Liberty’s and the internationally renowned areas of Bond Street, Regent Street and Carnaby Street - the Courthouse Hotel offers a luxurious haven for those wishing to enjoy the best that the capital has to offer. Situated in an historic courthouse, the Grade II listed building retains much of its original splendour, including a number of quirky features. The Great Marlborough Street Magistrate’s Court has played host to many famous cases over the years, guilty or not guilty Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Oscar Wilde have all passed through the Courthouse’s doors.

Many remnants of this time have been incorporated into the building’s current scheme. Original Robert Adams fireplaces adorn several of the suites, and The Bar’s private tables are actually inside three of the original prison cells. Silk, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, set to open 1st December is the old Number One court where the Judges bench, witness stand and dock take centre stage. Elsewhere in the hotel, glimpses of former use can be seen - such as the iron bars that separate the lobby from The Bar.

The Courthouse Hotel, and its sister hotel The Bentley, are represented by Kempinski Hotels & Resorts, Europe’s oldest and most established luxury hotel management group.

Restaurant & Bar:
  • There are three dining areas; ‘Carnaby’s’ with separate street entrance, offers all day dining with a lively, buzzy atmosphere. ‘Silk’ is located within the infamous No. 1 Courtroom where the great and not so good have pleaded their cases in previous years. This is fine dining at its most special with cuisine following the ancient Silk Route, flavoured by radical inspiration from Europe by head chef, Elisha Carter, formerly of Lola’s in Islington. The ‘Waiting Room’ is transformed into an elegant palm-filled atrium in which to relax and enjoy breakfast, light meals and afternoon tea.
  • ‘The Bar’s’ clubby atmosphere is emphasized by low seating, a wall-length glass bar and a monochrome design scheme of black and white leather. The three former Ladies Cells are retained, though upgraded, to offer intimate, private booths, complete with bunk bed and ice-bucket charmingly fashioned from the original Victorian lavatory.
  • The ‘Roof Terrace’ is the ultimate retreat and an exclusive rendez-vous, from where to enjoy light meals and exquisite cocktails, overlooking Liberty’s.
Breakfast is available at the restaurant at prices from £ 14.95.

Bedrooms:
Courthouse Hotel Kempinski has 116 rooms and suites. The 13 suites are located in the former judges’ robing rooms and the spectacular Lalique Suite is sited within the former London residence to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. The 103 rooms are housed in a brand new wing built on the site of a former police station, holding cells and a shooting range.

Health Club:
The Spa, which will open on April 4, 2005, has a fully equipped gymnasium, separated from the stunning wet areas by a glass wall. The wet areas comprise a hot tub and a large square swimming pool. There are two aluminium treatment rooms with glass floors, one of which is suspended over the pool (though swimmers please note, you cannot peep inside.).

Groups & Meetings:
The hotel has seven meeting rooms, catering for a maximum of 130 people (theatre style) in the largest room. Release, the hotel’s extravagant private screening room, seats up to 100 people and is the largest of its kind in London. With aubergine walls and large apple green leather chairs, the room can be used as a dramatic meeting room when not in cinematic use.

King Danube River Suite in Hilton Hotel Budapest at Royal Palace

Hilton Budapest Castle District

Ratings

Hilton Budapest Castle District, just like almost all of the luxury five-star hotels in Budapest Hungary, has been given about 4.5 rate out of 5 on average in the various online hotel guest reviews. As Graeme Harwood on Travel Intelligence puts it: "My favourite and first port of call whenever I return to Budapest, this Hilton must rank in the Hilton's top ten. Even 007 lost his cool here; that is, Roger Moore, who in a moment of implausible generosity, gushed over "this wonderful hotel - the prettiest in Europe." (Sir Roger Moore and UNICEF held a press conference at the Hilton Hotel in 2007). He also adds that the panoramic views of the hotel (overlooking the Pest side featuring the Parliament, the Chain Bridge, the Gresham Palace, etc.) bar none and you can enjoy "the finest after-dinner walks in Budapest" - especially on a corporate affair. Go to the official website of Hilton Budapest Castle District to make your booking.

Location of Hilton Budapest Castle District on Budapest Tourist Map

Location of Hilton Budapest

Hilton Budapest is not in the commercial centre of the city (which is Deak square). Instead it is located in the heart of the historic Castle District on the Buda Hills of the Buda side of Budapest. The Castle District is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The Fisherman's Bastion and the renaissance Matthias Church are literally a two-minute walk from bed to turret or chapel, and you can easily take a pleasant walk to the many museums of the Castle District. Mammut Shopping Mall, one of the most successful shopping centers in Hungary, is about 10-15 minutes on foot. Landmarks on the Pest side (Parliament, Szechenyi Spa Bath, the Jewish District with the largest European Synagogue, the Central Market Hall, Andrassy Avenue, Heroes' Square, or the pedestrian only shopping street called Vaci utca, etc. can be quickly reached by public transport in 15-35 minutes, or you can take a cab any time to enjoy the busy nightlife on the Pest side. If you wish to get around by trams or the underground, it is worth concentrating on one square to get your directions: Moszkva ter (Moscow square) on the red metro line and a major stop on the number 4 or 6 tram. The other square (Adam Clark) is at the foot of the Chain Bridge: here you can take the funicular railway up the hill, but it is more of a tourist destination than a real stop. The Castle District is basically built upon an underground cave system (like the digestive system of the Buda Hill, even featuring a wine tour). Consequently, private transportation is limited in order to protect the cave system from bearing too much weight: but Hilton Budapest guests have the privilege to drive in and out free of charge. Ferihegy International Airport is approx. 14 miles/ 23 km from the hotel (about 35 min drive).

Executive Room in Hilton Five Star Hotel at Royal Palace in Budapest Hungary

Rooms in Hilton Budapest

There are 322 rooms and suites in Hilton Budapest Hotel in the Castle District. All rooms offer direct dial telephone lines, modem, voicemail, high-speed wireless internet access, color TV, pay per view movies, radio, minibar, safe, tea and coffee makers, iron and ironing board, individually controllable air conditioning, and of course, convenient working desks. Bathroom amenities include bathrobes & slippers. Hilton Guestroom Plus and Hilton Executive Plus rooms are overlooking the River Danube and the picturesque Pest side of Budapest. Executive guests have access to the Clubroom, where complimentary breakfast, snacks and drinks, newspapers, magazines and a dedicated team members' service are available all day long. Steve Fallon on Lonely Planet suggests "choose anything on the 3rd to 6th floors (and we can guarantee that room No 518 will have you swooning)."

Pool and fitness Facilities in Hilton Budapest

No pool. The gym is fully equipped with a treadmill, stair stepper, rowing machine, weights and a universal weight machine, the fitness room also features a sauna where you can relax after your workout. Both the fitness room and the sauna are free of charge. Further amenities: solarium, beauty salon, hairdresser. Runners may enjoy the jogging paths through the medieval buildings of the Castle District: King Run is about 2 miles (3.6 km) & Queen Run is 1.2 miles (2 km) or can take the number 4 or 6 tram (about 15-20 min), get off at Margaret Island (Margitsziget) and run.

Restaurant terace in Hilton Five Star Hotel on Budapest Castle Hill

Dining in Budapest Hilton

The Lobby bar, as well as the Dominican and Corvina Restaurants provide a wide range of cuisine from light snacks to fine dining. The Corvina Restaurant is ideal for a Hilton breakfast, pleasant business lunch or informal dinner. The elegant Dominican Restaurant offers a breathtaking view on the Budapest city features while you are enjoying your superb international cuisine, especially seafood, and Hungarian specialties (including the popular goose liver). There is an outstanding selection of Hungarian wines (Tokaj wines included), contemporary piano music in the evenings and a spectacular stained glass ceiling around the clock. The recently renovated Lobby bar serves cocktails, hot and cold beverages, light snacks and specialty sandwiches, with live piano music in the evening. The Faust Wine Cellar, which was once owned by medieval Dominican monks, is an excellent site for tasting a wide range of Hungarian wines and appetizers (open from 4.00 pm to 11.00 pm). Don't forget to pay a visit to Ruszwurm Confectionery and Cafe Miro if you are a coffee drinker and have a sweet tooth - both are in the Castle District, just a few steps from the hotel.

Family friendly

Let's start with the magical atmosphere: slightly medieval surroundings, cobblestones, mysterious statues, real life cannons to play at knight and princess, orks and ogres with kids (mostly the fortified walls remained after the Turkish invasion, the Royal palace itself is of the 19th century). Baby-sitting service upon request, kids menus in the restaurant. Plus Hilton Budapest offers Saturday and Sunday Brunches with "all you can eat buffet" to the tunes of first-class live music. Complimentary champagne, orange juice and coffee is available. Half price for children between 4 and 14. As for household amenities, there is laundry, dry-cleaning, etc. services. Great children programs within 15 minutes: Margaret Island (Margitsziget) with green parks, bikes, carts, etc. or the playground and kid exhibitions at Millennial Park behind the Mammut Shopping Center on Moszkva ter.

Reviews of Hilton Budapest Castle District

A collection of subjective opinions of hotel guests (not of Luxury Hotels Budapest.com)

Review Summary

Hilton Budapest Castle District has been found one of the best in the Hilton hotel chain by several guests (superb picturesque location next to the Royal Palace, excellent services, competitive room prices). A recurring theme is the location, which is quiet, intimate and a very safe haven after a long day in the hustle and bustle - it also means that the hotel is not in the happening area. Buda (where the hotel is) is quieter than the busier Pest side packed with bars, dining options, entertainment, exciting sightseeing spots (my note: there are loads to do on the Buda side too, especially in summer, and Budapest is spread out, so you will need to come and go anyway if you want to have a rich experience). The Dominican Restaurant is said to be excellent, plus you can find many local restaurants within walking distance - not in the casual dining style though. The business oriented hotel has a professional and helpful staff. The interior is dubbed outdated by some reviews, giving a retro feeling of the 70's. Many suggest making sure that you choose a room with a river-view. Several guests found the minibar and the restaurant prices high - almost all Budapest luxury hotel reviews contain such remarks, so maybe the best is to be prepared.

"We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights prior to our river cruise. It is located on the Buda side of the city in the historic palace district. Many local restaurants within walking distance of hotel. We stayed on the executive floor with a spectacular view of the Danube river and the Pest side of the river including the spectacular parliament building and the chain bridge. Advantages for booking an executive room includes the executive lounge where you get free breakfast, lunch and dinner(some hot hors dourves, sandwiches and drinks). Hotel is walking distance to the palace and its spectacular grounds. Back of the hotel is the historic Fishermen's Bastien. Our room was large sized and comfortable for the two of us."

"This was my second stay at the Budapest Hilton, and like the first time around I was a happy guest. Hiltons do vary from one another, but this is one of their best hotels in many ways. The rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed - ours had a superb panoramic view of the Danube and Pest; I think I spent more time gazing out of the window than exploring the city! Budapest is one of the world's most beautiful cities, and I would rate it a top 10 city break. Also, prices have still not crept up to western European levels, so it represents relatively good value for money. In addition, service is excellent - polite and attentive but not over-the-top. The breakfast is OK, and room service meals are good. My final comments are about location. The Castle District is beautiful, romantic and very quiet, but also high up and remote from the rest of Budapest - a bit like a Hungarian acropolis. This means it is not in a "happening" area, especially at night. However, it is not a million miles away from all the other wonderful things to see and do in Budapest, and with either the funicular or the bus to Moszkva Ter station (or even lots of walking up and down the hill!) it is possible to get away without a taxi. On balance, provided you can cope with not being on the Pest side of town, this is a very nice hotel and one that I would gladly stay in again."

"This is a great hotel. The service is amazing and the view is stunning. I am a diamond Hilton honors member and found this hotel to be a top notch Hilton. The area around the hotel is beautiful. I would return to this hotel anytime I am in Budapest."

"This Hilton is dated but the service and the room was good. The room I had on the Executive Floor was spacious and comfortable, with a nice large bath that included both a shower and a tub. The bed was my only complaint, as it was hard as a board which I suppose is better than soft and worn. I did not have a view, but a spectacular view is only a moments walk to the rear of the hotel. I also walked around the Castle district which includes some great buildings. I agree with other reviews that the nightlife is limited, and although there are lots of restaurants within walking distance most of them are higher-end and not much in the way of casual dining. After having visited other parts of the city, I think I would have rather stayed on the Pest side since there appears to be much more entertainment and dining options; the Castle district gets rather dead at night (although I felt quite safe walking the streets at any time of the day and evening). The staff at the Executive Floor lounge was fantastic; very attentive and friendly. My primary complaint about the hotel overall is the lack of dining options. You can get a few items at the bar, and some snacks at the Executive Lounge, but the only restaurant for dinner was the Dominican Restaurant which again seemed more upscale and not what I was looking for after a long day or work."

"This Hilton has an amazing location and amazing views of the Danube River and the Pest side of Budapest, especially the Parliament buildings. But the hotel itself leaves a bit to be desired. It is very outdated in terms of decor---stuck in the 1970's and 1980's, and the music played throughout the hotel in the public areas, lounges, elevators, etc is all 1970's. Desk staff was friendly but hotel manager wasn't helpful at all when we complained that we had been ripped off by one of the hotel's taxis (taxi scams are a major issue in Budapest). Executive lounge staff was extremely helpful and friendly, but the food wasn't very good there. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, I'd give this a 5. Probably wouldn't stay there again."

"The Hilton commands a good location on the castle district which is great for sightseeing by day, but is otherwise a very quiet area at night particularly outside of the tourist season. Our initial experience with the hotel was a little disappointing - despite booking and receiving confirmation for a non-smoking King room, we were only provided with a twin room or a smoking King room. The hotel really didn't seem that busy so I was very surprised they were not able to find the requested room. The twin room itself was large, although somewhat bland or as one may say, functional. The bed was far too soft for our liking, as were the pillows. The bathroom appears clean and was again functional. Overall, the hotel feels very dated and was lacking in spirit or character. Perhaps the only highlight was price, which was very competitive. However, in hindsight I would be more than happy to pay another 50 euro a night for a better hotel."

"I really liked the Hilton as a hotel in terms of its nicely appointed public areas and rooms, it's service, and the spectacular setting. The hotel provides a sense of style, tastefully being built among ruins. And I doubt any hotel in Budapest can offer the wonderful views that the Hilton does, as long as you get a Pest-view room. Spectacular! This alone puts the Hilton above the rest, making it definitely worthwhile to stay at least once (or even one night). Our room had all the standard ammenities and furnishings you would expect in a luxury hotel. It was very spacious too, offering a nice level of comfort. Some reviewers have made negative comments about the breakfast, which was included in our room rate but expensive if purchased separately. I found it to offer a lot of choices, both hot and cold, to please almost every taste. Unless you are particularly fussy, you most likely will find enough to eat, although I think the quality/taste of some hot items should be improved for the price. All the staff I dealt with at the Hilton were very friendly and courteous, accommodating our requests. This just added to our overall pleasant stay. And, another plus was finding a bank ATM right in the hotel shop area. The only critical comment I can make is not a reflection of the hotel itself but its location. It's on the Buda side in the castle area. The topic of which side (Pest or Buda) to stay on is often debated here on the Tripadvisor Budapest Forum. While the castle area is a "must visit" to anyone coming to Budapest, I felt it was somewhat inconvenient as base for touring other sights and doing shopping, especially if you plan to (like to) do a lot of walking to get from one place to the next. However, I quickly realized after I arrived that Budapest is large and spread out, so regardless of where you stay, you will probably need to use some form of transportation at one time or another. In this regards, the public buses (16 and 10) connecting the Hilton to major transport hubs is excellent, so we actually managed better than I had thought. If budget is not and issue and you are looking for a very wonderful hotel in the deluxe category with a beautiful setting and spectacular views, then you will not be dissapointed with the Hilton. In fact, I recommend you splurging at least once to experience Budapest from the Hilton. In the end, while I may sound contradictory, if I were to visit Budapest again, I would like to try more budget accommodations offering better value, on the Pest side of the river, just to compare. I gave a rating of 4 simply because I felt the rates, services, and food in my opinion were not good value, in spite of the spectacular setting and views."

"The location is great but the price, even discounted, for a one-bedroom river-view suite is insane as both guestrooms and common areas, including executive lounge, look they never were refurbished since the 70s."

"Picked this hotel after reading the reviews here, and it's just perfect. Only disappointment is the Gym, very old equipment, substandard. And the hefty price of the breakfast buffet, I think euros 27 is a little bit too much."

"I chose this Hilton for re-visiting Budapest after 15 years. So I did not want it left to chance to stay in a welcoming room with a nice view. Hilton offers rooms with Danube view and in many instances (though not in all) Hilton proved to be of reliable quality. On arrival we were upgraded to the executive floor which was, of course, a hugh benefit. Drinks and food choices in the executive lounge were very good. Staff was friendly, though a little indifferent at time at reception, concierge and breakfast restaurant. The atmosphere in the breakfast restaurant was rather bustling and not very much inviting for my taste. We tried the Lobby bar once and were quite surprised to pay for 2 club sandwiches and 2 glasses of wine the equivalent of 55 Euros. This is much compared to other restaurants in direct neighbourhood. The room was spacious, the bed had a very good mattress, the bathroom was big. And the view gorgeous. The thing is that this side of the hotel had morning sun only. There is excellent connection by public transport by bus to the underground. At night this district of Buda becomes very intimate and the air is day and night a lot better than down in rather polluted Pest. I would chose the Hilton Budapest again!-- And Budapest did change after 15 years but still has much of its very specific charme, due to the inhabitants."

"I just want to confirm all the good things which have been said about his hotel here. I spent 6 nights in a top floor room with danube view and must say it's certainly worth the extra money. I was a bit disappointed by the restaurants in the castle district (but that's not the Hilton's fault), I tried several and found Cafe Pierrot to be the only acceptable choice (I think I'll write an extra review for that restaurant) in terms of tasteful decoration (the food there's excellent as well). The castle district is somewhat remote, as has been pointed out, but the walk downtown is scenic, and it's a pleasure to return to the peaceful Hilton after a busy day in the city. The service is what you would expect from a hotel in this category; the one thing I disapproved of was that there's no simple Continental Breakfast option. It took me a few days to accept the idea to pay 27 Euros for coffee and some bread and jelly - I don't like to start my day with a rich american-style breakfast, although the buffet certainly offers excellent choices for those who wish to satisfy more than half of their daily calories need at breakfast. But hey, maybe I'm just a cheapskate! I had lunch at the Dominican restaurant (which is very good), enjoyed the bar a number of times, and found the wine cellar interesting. If I return to Budapest I'll definitely consider staying again at the Hilton."

"Not only was the room and service great while we were there a day after we checked out the staff called Germany to resolve a problem my wife had finding our boat that had moved due to flooding. All this at 25% the rate of a hotel in Amsterdam."

Suite in Five Star Budapest Hilton Hotel

"We stayed at the Hilton for New Years Eve and had a really good time. Our room was immaculately clean, the staff were helpful, and the breakfast buffet was good too. The Hilton provided us with a free 'pick-up' service to and from the airport by means of a 24hr service mini-bus. ...The Hilton is situated on top of a hill, sandwiched between the Fishermen's Bastion and the Matyas Church, overlooking the River Danube and across to the Parliment building and the Chain Bridge.... so you've basically got four of Budapests main attractions on your door step. The view from the hotel is fabulous, especially at night. The only small problem with the location, being on top of a steep hill, is that the nearest metro stations are a little bit of a walk down hill, which can be exhausting on the way back up... it snowed heavily while we were there so it was really slippery too!...We booked a table in the Hiltons Dominican Restaurant for the New Years Eve Gala dinner, which was a little expensive but well worth it! There were loads of different courses and the food was fantastic. At midnight they opened the restaurant curtains so that we could see the fireworks going off over the Danube....spectacular! They've got a lovely stained glass window in the ceiling of this restaurant, which is worth a look too. As with most hotels, and especially the Hilton, avoid the minibar! We found a little corner shop just down the road from the Hilton (go left out of the front doors and it's across the street a little further down) which sold the same items for a tenth of the price! I would definitely go back to the Hilton if I returned to Budapest as the view alone makes it very special."

"We stayed at the Hilton for a romantic break - what an excellent decision. Our room was on the executive floor with breathtaking views of the Fishermans Bastion and the Danube beyond. The room was fantastic and we had use of the executive bar for snacks, breakfast and drinks etc. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night and the atmosphere was great , we had one night's dinner included in our booking but the "extras" - wine/eating a la carte made it an expensive evening. The castle area is beautiful (I recommend visiting the caves under the castle - especially if like us you visit during a heatwave!) and it is easy to get around Budapest - the bus stops just down from the hotel. ... It's very rare for me to want to revisit a place but I would love to return to Budapest and I would certainly stay at the Hilton again."

King Baroque Suite in Hilton Budapest Hungary

"The view is beautiful from this hotel and the area is quite nice but the service was less than great and needs improvement. My room was not what was reserved and the hotel was not interested in correcting their mistake. When they reluctantly changed my room, they gave me the corner room that looked over an alley-still not what I reserved with a Danube view. There were a few problems with the room such as the bathroom light not working and not being fixed. I still rank the hotel highly because of its view, location, room size, and the condition of the room and hotel. Its perfect in those areas."

"we spent a couple of days in Budapest and stayed in this beautiful hotel. The room was nice and spotless and the view was spectacular. Make sure you book your room with the view on the Danube!! the breakfast table had a great selection of food and the staff was extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone!"

"If you dont stay at the Hilton Budapest (castle district) for anything else - stay for the view! When you book please be sure and ask for a river facing room - it might cost you a little more, but I can assure you that its worth every penny. I am sure they have little web cameras to get the reaction of the guests when they enter the room and walk towards the huge windows and take in the breath taking views of the fishermans bastille (which you are in the middle of) the river Danube, the parliment buildings and the chain bridge - even more beautiful at night when they are illuminated. We organised a pick up from the airport through the concierge and the driver was there waiting for us as promised, there were four of us with a case each and it only cost around 30 Euros. Otherwise the hotel is lovely, clean and the staff are very helpfull and friendly. Some reviewers have commented on the food and how expensive it was - we didnt think so, the ambiance in the restaurant is lovely and so are the staff, they bring out the main courses covered with large silver domes and present you with it - what a novelty. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. We also ate at the restaurant opposite, I dont remember the name, but it was also lovely, I would recommed the hungarian deer stew - melt in the mouth!"

Anjou Meeting Room in Hilton Hotel Budapest Hungary

"My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Buda in Budapest for four nights during Grand Prix weekend. This was our second visit to Budapest as we stayed at the Gellert Hotel in August 2005. ... On check in the female receptionist was very helpful answering our questions and readily giving information. My requests for the room had been fulfiled in that we were allocated a room on a high floor and were able to see the Danube from the room. The room was excellent, very clean , a good size and well planned. Our bags were delivered to our room by an equally helpful employee who appeared to be very keen to help us in any way he could and did not hover in anticipation of a tip . Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. We encountered the concierge quite a few times and he was always happy to help us in whatever capacity. We used the bar once a day and again all staff were pleasant and helpful.. At no time could i fault anything in this hotel. The hotel's position has been commented on in other reviews but there is no problem crossing to the Pest side of the city, number 16 bus is both frequent and cheap. The view from the Hilton is excellent. This is definitely the hotel to stay at in Budapest. The cost for four nights at the hotel was £372 including breakfast. Brilliant."

"We stayed at the Hilton for our Silver Wedding celebrations and were totally delighted with the City and Hotel. We arrived at the very beautiful Castle District of the city and from the moment we stepped out of our car to the day we we departed the hotel staff were kind considerate, helpful and courteous. As this was a special occassion for us we asked for a room with a view of the Danube and boy did they deliver, the view from our room was stunning. This made our stay all the more special and when we return to Budapest as I am sure we will as it is such a magical place we would only consider staying at the Budapest Hilton. We wish to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Hilton and to the people of Budapest"

Restaurant interior in Hilton Hotel Budapest Hungary

"Stayed with my wife for two nights and found the hotel to be excellent in every way. All the hotel staff where friendly, helpful and keen to please. We had a lovely room overlooking the river, the bathroom was sparkling clean, the room was in good condition and well furnished. As others have indicated, the hotel is in a good location if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of a big city, yet everything was in easy reach. It is one of the very best hotels stays I have had in the last couple of years and I would definitely recommend it to anyone."

"This is an expensive hotel by Budapest standards, but we got quite a good deal by booking a room-only rate on the hotel website. Beware, however, that breakfast in the hotel costs 27 euro if it is not included in your room rate! Our room was clean and comfortable and contained everything one would expect in an hotel of this standard, including a fully-stocked (but expensive) mini-bar and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries in the bathroom. However, the location of the hotel on Castle Hill in Buda is the main attraction of the hotel, it cannot be faulted from this perspective. Staff were also extremely friendly and helpful."

"We stayed at this hotel for one night before leaving on a river cruise. The rooms were very nice, quiet and the staff very accomodating. I arranged pick-up at the airport through the concierge prior to our arrival and he was right outside baggage claim with a sign with our name, just as we had been told. The location is terrific with many restaurants within walking distance and shopping very convenient. The views are unbeatable. All in all I would recomend without hesitation."

Twin Hilton Guest Room in Budapest Hilton Hotel

"My stay at the Hilton Budapest was simply lovely. As a woman traveling on my own, it's important to me to feel safe in the area around my hotel and the location was perfect for that. The area is quiet (if you're seeking exciting nightlife, stay elsewhere) and filled with excellent restaurants, cafes and galleries. The Fisherman's Bastion, Buda Palace, National Museum are all within walking distance as is the funicular which makes it easy to get up and down to the Chain Bridge to the more "exciting" Pest side of the city. As for the hotel itself, the people were incredibly kind, the room large and comfortable and the views from the Guestroom Plus (worth the extra cost) breathtaking especially at night. I will look forward to staying here again."

"I stayed at the Hilton in the Castle District of Budapest for 6 nights. Fortunately, I had a discounted rate because I was attending a conference at the hotel. The good: I like the hotel's location. It's in the older and more quaint part of town. It's next to the Fisherman's Bastion, which has an incredible view of Budapest. The hotel is close to over priced restaurants and the post office. Public transportation is walking distance. The staff were friendly and the room was cleaned. They turned down our beds in the evening and left chocolate on our pillows. The staff were great and very helpful. I needed a firmer pillow and I called the front desk. Housekeeping brought me a pillow within 5 minutes and the front desk called me to make sure I received it. I left my laptop on the desk (not locked down to anything) during my entire stay and it wasn't stolen. I left other things out that could have been valuable for others but nothing was ever taken. The kind of bad: There's a digital safe in the closet and I placed my valuables in there. A laptop would fit but I didn't put mine in. One day, I was pressing the numbers to open the safe and the screen went blank. I called the front desk and two men came by--one to open the safe with a devise and the other (I presume) is to make sure the other one doesn't take anything. I asked if it safe to use it and one of the men said "it happens sometimes". I did use the safe again afterward and I didn't have a problem again. The bad: Two unpleasant things though were the cost of using the internet and tipping. In regards to the internet, I had to pay 18,750.00 Forint (about US$100) to use the wireless connection for 7 days. It costs 7,500.00 Forint (about US$40) for 24 hours. There's a business center and I saw people borrowing/renting(?) a router in case your computer doesn't have wireless connection. The other thing is tipping for the hotel stay. I checked out early Sunday morning and noticed that there is a "tip" line for the hotel bill. I've never seen a tip line for hotel bills before and I don't recall reading or hearing about it. I wasn't sure what to do. My boss was standing nearby and I asked her. She said she's never seen that either and she didn't leave a tip. So, I didn't leave one either. I tipped the porters though."

Lobby Bar in Hilton Hotel Budapest Hungary

"Just got back from Budapest and have to say if you want to even have a chance at enjoying Budapest then do not stay here!! The hotel is isolated with nothing to do around it, there is the castle area but after a few hours of exploring the area there is nothing left to do. The rooms are spacious and the actual hotel is quite nice, its just that the location is horrible in terms of actually seeing Budapest. Food choices are limited around the hotel, so if you are going on business and not tourism then this hotel is fine. However, if you want accessibility to actually seeing Budapest then do not stay in this location. We actually left Budapest in one day because of our poor choice in hotel."

" ... Check-in was smooth and staff were very friendly and professional. We were given a list of recommended restaurants in the neighbourhood, as well as information on tours. We were delighted with our room, a very large, non-smoking room on the fifth floor. It had a spectacular view of the Danube and the city below, and was almost directly over the Fishermen's Bastion, an early 20th century structure consisting of ramparts, galleries and staircases in the style of a Romantic castle. The window ledge in our room was wide enough to use as a window seat, and we often perched there to look at the wonderful view, especially at sunset. We enjoyed breakfast each morning in a large, comfortable restaurant. The hot and cold selections at the breakfast buffet were extensive and of good quality for a buffet-style service. We never had difficulty getting a table, even though the restaurant was busy, and the servers were friendly and efficient. During each day of our visit, we walked to most of the sights we wanted to see. It was about a 20 minute walk down the hill and across one of the bridges to the Pest side of the city, and about a 30 minute walk back."

Concerts in the Dominican Courtyard in Budapest Hilton Hotel Hungary

"We have just returned from an enjoyable 3 night stay at the Hilton Budapest - Castle District. The service was excellent; we were shown to our room by the Manager no less! We had an Executive room on the 3rd floor with the Fisherman's Bastion right outside the window and views across the Danube to the parliament building and Pest. The Castle district is very peaceful with very little traffic allowed through. ...Getting around Budapest is easy. We opted for a 3 day travel card which gives you access to all public transport. We also did a 2 hour "Segway" tour...lots of fun and a great way of getting round Pest without tiring out your legs. All in all a very enjoyable stay in a superb hotel. Would go there again."

"For those that want to be away from the congestion of the Pest side of the river, the Hilton on Castle Hill is ideal. The area is very secure, peaceful, and quiet at night. There are a variety of several, excellent restauarnts close by, most of which are highly rated on the Tripadvisor site as well as in various guidebooks. The Pest side of the river is a very quick cab ride or scenic walk away. Service at the hotel was very good and our room comfortable and updated."

Ballroom Classroom in Budapest Hilton Hungary

"This is a superb hotel! My very comfortable room overlooked the Fishermen's Bastion, the Danube and the Hungarian Parliament - a beautiful view all around. The Castle District is quiet but there are just enough restaurants and shops. Several great museums are a short walk away, most notably the Hungarian National Gallery (which I had pretty much to myself, late on a Thursday afternoon). The Hilton's staff is friendly and helpful. My only quibble: Using the business center connection to the Internet is very expensive."

"I'm staying here on a 6 night discounted award booking. I also have HHonors Diamond status. Walked in at ~10:30am and within minutes had my keys to an Executive Level+ room on the 3rd floor. The + stands for the views. My room #377 is located right in the middle of the hotel facing the river, the Parliament building across the river and the Fisherman's Bastion to the side of the hotel. The room is good size. If I have one complaint, but that's true with all the Hiltons, it's the charges for internet access. It's ridiculous. In fairness, there is a free internet station with a printer in the lounge but I need to work on my laptop for various reasons so I had no choice but to buy the 7 days pass. It came out cheaper than if I was to buy 6-1 day passes, but it's still ~$15 a day. I love the location. A quiet oasis after exploring the more busy, loud Pest side. There is a great wine cellar deep underneath the hotel. It's part of the old castle cellar network. It's kind of hard to find as the entrance is from the shopping arcade area but well worth a visit or 2. Pass on the hotel restaurants. Way overpriced and not that good. Highly recommend this hotel. Would stay here again."

Executive Lounge in Budapest Hilton Castle Hill in Hungary

Expedia

"Good location on castle hill. Staff was very helpful and knowledgable"

"We enjoyed our stay but the hotel is not up to the same standard as you get in Western European cities. Attractive surrounding. I wouldnÕt personally go back to Budapest though."

"A really super hotel in a lovely setting. Great service from helpful staff. Highly recommended. Just one thing, skip the hotel bar - 2 double Gin and Tonics = 30 UK pounds!! - the same as a day's car hire!"

"The hotel had great views of the city, especially at night. The executive lounge is rather small but it's still very cozy. The service and the staff were outstanding mostly during the afternoons when they had a huge variety of snacks and beverages. During the summer a souvenir market is open just a few minutes from the hotel. They had many stalls and great prices in comparison to stores at more touristy places."

"Overall an excellent hotel in the Castle District which I consider as the nicest part of Budapest. Some reasonable restaurents near by and the Hilton's restaurents are very good as well. Service in Dominimum Restaurent in particular is excellent. Only let down was that the Concierge could have been more helpful with travel instructions. Metro Line 2 was closed when we were in Budapest and the Concierge sent us to the sub station without telling us that."

"The Hilton was, as you'd expect, a top class hotel. We couldn't fault the standard of the room, in terms of facilities and cleanliness. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner once in their Dominican restaurant, which was very good. We didn't try the breakfast. The only minor drawback, in terms of location, is that the hotel is in the Buda, as opposed to the Pest, side of town - so isnÕt as easily accessible to the main shopping and bar/restaurant areas. However it is in a very picturesque location, and is very quiet and peaceful."

"Really nice hotel, excellent steam room and very pleasent staff."
